Members of Parliament
Diana Wallis MEP for Yorkshire and Humberside - has spoken out against
the bridge debt and tolls. See her statement here.
Shona McIsaac MP for Cleethorpes - introduced a failed Private
Member’s Bill in Parliament in 2005, as follows:
“...to amend the
Humber Bridge Act 1959; to require the Secretary of State to give
directions to certain members of the Humber Bridge Board in relation to
healthcare; to require the Secretary of State to review the
desirability of facilitating journeys across the Humber Bridge in
relation to Healthcare; and for connected purposes.”
The effect of this would have been to give local NHS
trusts representation on the Bridge Board, enabling it to provide toll
concessions to patients and visitors who have to travel across the
bridge to hospitals on the north bank.
